Motorrad Solutions provides a UK postal repair service for faulty BMW motorcycle switchgear, including dead or intermittent indicator, horn, starter, menu and cruise-control buttons.

How it works:

  • Book a repair
  • Send your switchgear to the address in your confirmation email*
  • I'll test the unit, find and repair any faults and send it back to you
  • If it cannot be repaired, £40 is refunded & £5 covers return postage

I aim to get the switch fixed and on its way back to you within 3 working days but I'm one man with a day job so please allow up to 10 days.

*You are responsible for securely packing the switchgear and arranging suitable tracked and insured postage to me. Responsibility for the parcel remains with you until it is delivered. Tracked UK return postage is included in the £45 service price.

What's the problem?

Having stripped and repaired over 100 switchgear units, I have found that many failures originate in the printed conductive tracks used inside the assembly.

BMW no longer use traditional wires in the switchgears but instead have opted for a printed circuit style configuration which is quite impressive to look at but unfortunately it hasn't stood the test of time.

The delicate circuits are printed directly to the plastic of the switch body and the buttons themselves are then soldered in place. The circuit is then covered in a resin to protect from corrosion.

The most common fault is a break in the printed conductive track, often associated with age, repeated temperature cycles or localised corrosion.

To make it even more complicated, on the newer switchgears with 3 wires all the information is sent down a single wire in packets of data.

I have developed my own set of tools to bench test and repair these units to a high standard.

Removal

Once you have decided your switchgear is faulty you will need to remove it from your bike. Removal is generally straightforward with basic tools, although the exact procedure varies by model.

You may need the following tools:

  • T8 & T10 Torx for the grip/switch
  • T40 - 60 Torx for the bar end weight
  • A small flat screwdriver to pop the plug cover off

Can my BMW motorcycle switchgear be repaired?

Many dead or intermittent button faults can be repaired by bypassing failed printed conductive tracks inside the switch assembly.

How much does BMW switchgear repair cost?

The service costs £45, including bench testing and tracked UK return postage. You pay the cost of sending the unit to Motorrad Solutions.

What happens if my switchgear cannot be repaired?

£40 is refunded and £5 is retained to cover return postage.

How long does the repair take?

Most repairs are completed within three working days of arrival, but customers should allow up to ten working days.

Do I have to send my own switchgear?

Yes. This is a repair service for your existing unit; no replacement switchgear is supplied.
